Follow Me

On Shells

You want an outspoken woman
then you claim she is “too much.”
You demand conventional beauty
then bristle at the time it takes
for a face with different peaks and valleys
to be painted to look the same.
You claim you crave intellectual stimulation
then put her down at every turn
because you’re intimidated by her knowledge
You “need a girl with talent”
but are impatient with her time spent practicing
You claim to love her sense of humor
but brush her off as a “silly girl”
What you end up with
is a shell of a woman
that once contained greatness
You stripped it from her
layer by layer
until she became a husk
that you could kick to the side
and begin anew
the search for an outspoken woman.
